Finally Introducing Macy Jane
As noted in the Christmas post, my Christmas present was a puppy. I've been talking about getting a miniature dachshund for over a year. John has always said "no we are not getting a dog!". I took that as not never but at a later date, maybe when we're a little more settled. About mid November he got really excited about my Christmas present and just kept asking me if I wanted to know what it was. Of course I kept saying "no", and started thinking that he was a little too excited for it to be a panini maker, immersion blender or some other sort of kitchen gadget which is pretty much all I ever ask for. Some of you may know that John talks in his sleep. It usually doesn't make enough sense for me to even remember what he said the next morning. On one particular night he was having a hard time sleeping and got up again for a while. Later that same night I woke up (I have been a very light sleeper ever since I became a mother) to him talking. What did he say you ask? I'm not sure I remember the exact words but it was something like this, (he first sat up on the edge of the bed as if having a conversation with someone) "I can't wait to pick up the little guy, I can't believe it worked out." That was it. I don't usually read into anything he says in his sleep but this time I did. I rolled over to go back to sleep and then it hit me, "oh my goodness, he's getting me a puppy for Christmas!" I was going to just not say anything, try and wait out the surprise but I couldn't. The next morning I told him I thought I knew what my Christmas present was, that he had talked in his sleep. He suddenly looked concerned and wanted to know what he had said. He did confess that yes I was getting a puppy and that the reason he couldn't sleep is because he was stressed out trying to figure out how he was going to make the trip to Pennsylvania (5 hrs one way) without me finding out to pick up this puppy. I then told him that there was a breeder here in Mass, he had not come across her in her search, gave her a call and she had three puppies ready to go. We headed out that evening and came back with a 15 week old puppy. It was nice to have a slightly older puppy. She could get through the night without having to go out and pretty much had all the shots needed in the first year. So here she is, Macy Jane!

We all love little Macy. John and I have never considered ourselves dog people but we've decided that we are Macy people. Though the middle of winter in New England is not the ideal time for house breaking a dog, she's doing really well and rarely has accidents in the house. She's good with the kids, though a little nervous of them still when they're being crazy (I would be too). She follows me around all day and will do anything for a little praise from me. She loves to snuggle and settles right down on my lap any time I have a minute to sit down (or John's lap if mine is not available:)

Happy New Ye.... actually more importantly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN!
Ready for cake and proof that he was wearing a bib, though I fully expected it to come off within minutes.

Black forest cupcakes, some with cherries on top and some with cars, trucks or stop signs.

Lovin' the candle.

Not too sure about this (not a huge fan of food in general).

Approves of the sugar truck.

Whipped cream is pretty good.

Getting down to business (note the sudden disappearance of the bib and just in time).

Done.

Gift time (too close to Christmas, doesn't care one bit about opening the gift, just wants the result).

So what's Ben up to these days?
- Started walking a month before his birthday and is always on the move.
- Can climb up and down stairs.
- Loves to climb everything and is quite inventive about it.
- Too active to cuddle much, but is too attached to mom to not give her a good snuggle now and again.
- Loves to point at everyone in the family.
- Is a little high maintenance but adored by us all.
LOVE YOU BEAN!

Hangin' at the Beach
No I'm not speaking of going to the beach in January, in New England that would be INSANE! Well, we've been to the beach in the winter but not to spend much time. I'm actually talking about playing at the beach in August. I know, August was a long time ago, but I always hold off posting the latest family pics until our families have received their Christmas gifts. This year we headed to Scituate Yacht club. It was the perfect New England setting. Sand, beach grass, ocean, rocks and sailboats all at the same place. Kristen did an amazing job as usual. Too bad she'll be leaving us in May:( For those wondering, that does mean that Abby will also be losing her very best friend in May. We're trying to start warning them, they just think that they are moving together.
I'm sure you're tired of my ramblings, so here are some of our favorites.

Where to start???
I know many of you have looked and have probably given up any hope for a new post when you find yourself still looking at Halloween pictures. I guess the best place to start at this point is Christmas. I realize you've all gotten past Christmas mode but here it is, Christmas with the Keyes.
The Christmas season began in late Nov. when Santa arrived via boat in Cohasset harbor.
Santa, Mrs Claus, the elves, Rudolph and Frosty then hopped on a horse drawn wagon to head into town for some family fun and photos with Santa.

The first week of Dec. we went out and bought a tree.

"Show me the ornament"

The kids with their advent calendars. Each envelope had a treat in it. It was then turned around to show a picture or letter eventually spelling Merry Christmas Aiden/Abby.
All our best Christmas pictures this year are of Ben. Baby's First Christmas!
This is me pulling him off the gifts, not putting him on:)

The little doggie in the background is my Christmas present, more on her later.
"Thank you Aiden!" (Can you tell who the hugger is in the family?)

We finished off the day with a bunch of friends who also stuck around for the holidays. No photos to document it of course, but it ended up being 12 adults and 13 children. It was a great meal with even better company. Thanks Friends!
